What Is Indian Attestation?

Indian attestation legalises a certificate issued in India so it is accepted by UAE visa, education, licensing and corporate authorities. It's a chain of verifications — state, central (MEA), UAE Embassy in Delhi and finally MOFA Dubai — that together confirm the document is genuine.

How the Chain Works

Educational certificates start at the issuing state's HRD; personal certificates go through SDM or the Home Department; commercial documents are notarised and Chamber-attested. All routes converge at MEA New Delhi, then the UAE Embassy in Delhi, and finally MOFA Dubai for local acceptance.

Why It Matters

UAE employment visas, KHDA / DHA / MOH licensing, family visa sponsorship, Golden Visa and company registration all require fully attested Indian documents. A missing stamp restarts the whole chain — often meaning another trip to India.

WHEN YOU NEED IT

When Do You Need Indian Attestation?

Every major UAE application that references an Indian document requires the full attestation chain.

  • Education & licensing

Degrees and marksheets for KHDA, DHA, MOH admissions. See degree attestation.

  • Family & personal

Birth, marriage and death certificates for family visa and inheritance.

  • Employment & visa

Educational and experience certificates for UAE employment visa, Golden Visa and professional licensing.

  • Commercial & trade

Incorporation, MOA and invoices — see commercial attestation.

The Process

Four steps, handled by us.

Four coordinated stages from state to MOFA Dubai.

  1. 01

    State / Notary

HRD for education, SDM/Home Dept for personal, Notary + Chamber for commercial in the issuing Indian state.

  2. 02

    MEA New Delhi

Apostille or attestation by the Ministry of External Affairs after state-level clearance.

  3. 03

    UAE Embassy Delhi

Legalisation at the UAE Embassy in New Delhi for UAE acceptance.

  4. 04

    MOFA Dubai

Final attestation at UAE MOFA so the document is accepted across UAE authorities.

Documents required

Your document checklist.

Typical documents needed to start Indian attestation from the UAE.

Original certificate

Clean original Indian-issued certificate — degree, marksheet, birth, marriage or commercial document.

Passport & visa page

Colour scan of the holder's passport bio page and UAE residence visa or entry stamp.

Authorisation letter

If a family member or agent holds the original in India, a signed authorisation letter is required.

Purpose letter

Employer, school or licensing authority letter stating why attestation is required (where applicable).

Avoid rejections

Top reasons documents get rejected.

Preventable issues that stall Indian attestation for weeks.

  • Missing state verification

MEA will not attest a document that has not first cleared the issuing-state HRD, SDM or Notary.

  • Wrong embassy route

Apostille alone is not always enough for UAE — many bodies still require UAE Embassy + MOFA Dubai.

  • Name mismatch

Spelling differences between certificate, passport and Emirates ID block downstream applications.

  • Photocopy or laminated

Photocopies and laminated originals must be re-issued before attestation can proceed.
