What Is US Attestation?
US attestation is a five-step chain that legalises American-issued documents for UAE use. Because authentication authority is split between US states and the federal Department of State, the correct routing depends on where and how the document was issued.
How the Chain Works
A Notary Public verifies signatures, the County Clerk certifies the notary, the state Secretary of State authenticates the county, the US Department of State applies the federal apostille or authentication, the UAE Embassy in Washington DC attests it, and MOFA Dubai completes UAE acceptance.
Why It Matters
UAE employment visas, DHA / DoH / KHDA licensing, family visa sponsorship and Golden Visa applications all require attested US documents. Skipping any step — especially US Department of State — invalidates the entire chain.

- 02
Secretary of State
The issuing state's Secretary of State authenticates the notary or the vital record directly.
- 03
US Dept of State
Federal Department of State in Washington DC applies the apostille or authentication certificate.
- 04
UAE Embassy + MOFA
UAE Embassy Washington DC attests, then MOFA Dubai finalises acceptance in the UAE.
